As per the Republicans, the war against women is a lie and meant to distract people from the real issue, which is the economy. The reality is economics are as much a part of the war against women as anti-choice legislation. Women earn $.78 to the every dollar a man earns and that gap translates into $10,784 less in median earnings a years.
Lilly Ledbetter does nothing to address wage parity; what it does do is level out the playing field for women to sue for pay discrimination.
In May, 2012, Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) called for equal pay in the workplace and re-introduced the Paycheck Fairness Act. On June 5, 2012 ALL Senate Republicans blocked the bill. The names of the Senate Republican Women who blocked the bill are: Sens. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), Susan Collins (Maine), Kay Bailey Hutchison (Texas), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Olympia Snowe (Maine). As a tribe we are polarized and no I don't think it's a bad thing. Any humane social change has been a direct result of polarization. That is the light of polarization, the shadow is the American Congress.
