Scott Walker has just signed Right to Work in Wisconsin. As ever the Koch Brothers, Republicans, and the 1 percent have brilliantly framed an issue to make business even more money and destroy the workers. Right to work laws allow a worker to skip paying union dues but still receive the benefits of union-negotiated contracts. This is akin to going to a restaurant, eating dinner, and skipping out on the bill because of your right to eat. Obviously the restaurant is going to go out of business. The whole point of Right to Work is to destroy the unions. Kiss decent working conditions, health and safety provisions, and a living wage goodbye. And in ten to twenty years when the workers revolt they will simply be throw in jail or shot because the right to protest has been completely eroded and made illegal for the domestic safety.
Next on the list is Tom Cotton’s open letter to Iran signed by 47 U.S. Senators. Tom’s letter was the veiled threat of an out of control, high school, student council president. Between the lines it said, we, the Republican Congress, are more powerful than the president, and we’re coming for you; the president is a puppet, we’re the real power. Keep in mind that Tom Cotton, a Harvard graduate and a soldier of some distinction, claimed that ISIL and the Mexican drug cartels joining forces to attack Arkansas was a credible threat. That Cotton even wrote the letter and 47 U.S. Senators signed it drips of racism. Yes, I think treason too, but the overt racism of the action took my breath away. Had the president been a white man that letter would never have been written. (I’m pretty sure I’m going to catch hell for that comment) Granted I have more than a few, serious political issues with Obama but race isn’t one of them. I have never seen a president or the office treated with such an utter lack of respect (even the Clinton impeachment) and not one elected official is standing up and saying anything because clearly there isn’t a race problem in the U.S. if we have an African American President. Are you kidding me???? The puppeteers are smart, evil but smart, and they have covertly been playing the race card since Obama became president.
And while we’re on race why in hell hasn’t NARAL, NOW, and the Feminist Majority taken a stand for Black Lives Matter? Why hasn’t one feminist organization come out against Right to Work Laws? And I’m a little sick of the whole concept of first, second, and third wave feminism. Nothing is more representative of patriarchal thinking then schematizing a movement. Third wave grew out of second wave grew out of first wave, one gave rise to the other; we stand on the shoulders of those who went before us. And that’s just the problem isn’t it? Life and living has been schematized, one thing has been separated from the other, set at odds. We live in a world that refuses to recognize the interconnectedness of all things. We live in a world where people just don’t want to think about the horrors all around them and I understand that because it makes me, them, feel so powerless. But I also know that it is through my powerlessness that I find my strength.
From my heart to yours.
